Installating MetaFrame 1.8

After successfully installing the Windows 2000 Server and configuring Terminal Services, the basic installation of Citrix MetaFrame is relatively quick and easy. It is not unusual to install, configure, and deploy applications via the Internet within a single day to begin a pilot program. The steps

below cover the installation process for standard installations of Citrix MetaFrame 1.8 on Windows 2000, Citrix NFuse, and Feature Releases.

Prior to installing MetaFrame there are a few things to consider. You typically want to install MetaFrame on the same drive partition as Windows 2000, you will want to have adequate disk available on this partition to install MetaFrame and have approximately 2x installed RAM available for your page file. If you will take advantage of the drive letter remapping feature, you need to install all applications after MetaFrame installation. Configure all networking protocols you will use for MetaFrame connections before installation for ease of networking configuration.

1.    Insert the MetaFrame CD in your server. If autorun is enabled, the installation welcome screen will be displayed. Otherwise, run setup.EXE from the root of your CD drive.

2.    Read and follow the prompts for the screens that are displayed, there are a few choices to customize the installation. Note in Figure 8.1 that the server is rebooted at the end of the installation procedure.

Figure 8.1 Note that a system reboot is required during the MetaFrame installation.

3. The MetaFrame 1.8 for Windows licensing screen allows you to add license packs during the installation. If you add licenses during installation, you will have 35 days to register your server with Citrix Systems. To add license packs during installation click Add License Packs (Figure 8.2).
